AQR Capital Management is a hedge fund founded in 1998 by former Goldman Sachs trader, Clifford S. Asness.[2][3]

Description and history

The firm invests in public equity and hedges markets across the globe.[4] In 2007, AQR Capital Management had $35 billion in assets under management.[5][4] According to a 2007 article in the New York Times, AQR Capital Management (AQR) shelved plans for an IPO due to poor performance causing "several large investors to pull their cash from the firm’s $38 billion fund."[3].

AQR Capital Management was listed as one of the 100 Hedge funds to watch by the Financial Times.[5], which reported that the firm "takes a systematic, computer-assisted approach to investment involving both value and momentum factors applied to various asset classes" and views themselves as "fundamental rather than quantitative as they like to ‘understand the story’ behind their models rather than rely solely on data."[5] The company utilizes a variety of investment vehicles such as ETFs and futures. [6]

The firm began offering risk parity strategies to its clients around 2005. In 2011, the Wisconsin State Investment Board hired AQR to manage $300 million USD as part of its risk parity strategy portfolio.[7][6]
